The Foundation
The many cannot be ruled by one.
AI is the most powerful technology ever made, and it is concentrating in a few private companies, on their servers, on their terms. The industry promised open and delivered closed. OneHill is the counter, acting while the shape of intelligence is still being set.
Two reasons
Distribution is the safeguard. A single concentrated intelligence, in one entity's hands, can be turned against everyone who depends on it. The counter is intelligence in as many hands as possible, so no single owner can go up against the many.
Local, private, decentralised. Intelligence has to run on people's own machines, in a decentralised and private way. Control and compute stay with the people. Nobody can cut your access. Nobody takes advantage of what you build.
The mission
Democratise intelligence: everyone can access, use, and run their own. People own their own intelligence and run it on their own machines, on their own data, holding their own weights. The metric is the whole brand: the number of people actually running their own intelligence. Awareness counts for nothing. Running your own counts.
The name
An anthill rises grain by grain. No architect, no blueprint, no ruler. Each ant carries one grain, no ant carries the hill, and the hill exists anyway. Anthill is the product people run. OneHill is the foundation, the hill the many build together. Many minds. One hill.
Built so it cannot be captured
A company that owns the trademark and governance of an open-source project can decide, under pressure, that the mission is secondary to the balance sheet. So the mission is held by a neutral non-profit, separate from any commercial entity. OneHill holds the open-source repositories, the trademarks, and the governance.
The foundation is member-driven: members fund it and shape where it goes. It is being established as an Austrian gGmbH (gemeinnützige GmbH), a non-profit company for the public good. Contributors sign a Fiduciary Licence Agreement, licensing their work to the foundation as fiduciary, bound to keep the code free under its open licence.
What we steward
Anthill, the runtime: open-source, self-hosted AI anyone can run, AGPL v3 with a commercial licence for closed commercial use. ASDD and OKGF, open standards given away freely: CC-BY for the specifications, permissive licences for the tooling.
